What is a 6-month health certificate?
A 6-month health certificate, also called an EECVI, is an extended use health certificate.
They function much like a traditional 30-day health certificate but last for 6 months and provide a better option for frequent equine travelers.
This option is best for equine travelers that frequently visit state parks, trail riding through various states, or other long weekend journeys.

***Other States are currently working towards getting approved but due to current restrictions they are unable to approve 6-month health certificates currently. ***
It is advised that you check your destination and make sure what type of health certificate they accept (30-day certificate of veterinary inspection vs 6-month EECVI health certificate).
***Most Equine show facilities will only allow 30 days as they want recent veterinary inspections***
Steps to get a 6-month health certificate approved
- Make sure your coggins will last the full 6 months (once the health certificate is approved with that coggins it CANNOT be undone)
- Have an active Global Vet Link account with the same email that MATCHES what we have in the CEH system (otherwise you may not see the approval come through)
- Once we have a current coggins that will last the full 6-months (we can do both on the same day) you will need to have an appointment to have an exam done by one of our veterinarians
- We can approve the health certificate, then you will get an email from GVL. You then put all your information in each time you plan to take a trip.
