Neurologic problems in the horse can arise suddenly or have an insidious onset. Sometimes the signs may be obvious to the owner, and in other cases they may be so subtle that only a veterinarian can pick up on them.
Veterinarians from CEH can evaluate your horse for subtle neurological problems, and diagnose severe neurologic deficits. A complete neurologic examination of your horse can be performed on your farm or at our clinic. This examination includes evaluating your horse’s gait in various circumstances, observation of muscle symmetry and a detailed assessment of your horse’s cranial nerve function (including an eye exam). Additional diagnostics available through CEH include obtaining a sample of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF).
Our veterinarians can also utilize our computed radiography system to evaluate your horse’s cervical vertebral column to locate areas where the spinal cord may be pinched.
