Meet Carolina Equine Hospital’s Newest Veterinary Associate, Dr. Nick Lavie!

Getting to Know Dr. Lavie

Let’s get to know Dr. Lavie a little better. We provided him with a brief Q&A to learn more about his background and interests. Here were his responses.

Ashley  – Where are you from, and where do you live now?

Nick-  I am from Covington, LA, just north of New Orleans. I will be living in Browns Summit.

A- Where did you attend vet school?

N- I attended Louisiana State University. Geaux Tigers!

A- What do you like to do in your free time?

N- My wife and I like to hike and backpack in our free time.

A- What is your favorite food?

N- My favorite food is any of the Louisiana staples (gumbo, crawfish etouffee, jambalaya).

A – Please tell us an interesting fact about you

N- An interesting fact is that my wife and I backpacked the Inca Trail in Peru in August 2019.

A – Now on to the work- related ones!

When did you develop your interest in horses?

N-I grew up pleasure riding and working as a camp counselor at a horseback riding camp. I continued to develop my interest in equine medicine at LSU where I worked in the Equine Health Studies Program assisting in research and working as an assistant in the Equine Hospital and Scintigraphy Unit.

A – Do you have any of your own horses?

N- I do not have any horses at this time. I currently have a dog and my wife has two cats.

A – Where did you do your internship?

N-I did an internship at Weatherford Equine Medical Center in Weatherford, TX in 2014-2015.

A – What is one thing you feel is very important for horse owners to know about caring for horses?

N- I think it is very important for owners to know that the horse’s success and health is a team effort and everyone plays a vital role. It is important to have open communication between the owner, rider, veterinarian, farrier, nutritionist, etc. in order to provide the best care for the horse.
