Respiratory

Horses can be affected by a wide range of respiratory problems from acute infections to chronic disease. The veterinarians at CEH can diagnose and help you manage your horse with respiratory problems.

The initial respiratory examination will include careful evaluation of your horse's lung and tracheal sounds. A re-breathing system may be employed to encourage your horse to take deep breaths during this examination. A CEH veterinarian can use our endoscope to visually evaluate your horse's respiratory tract and guttural pouches.

Additionally, a trans-tracheal wash or a bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) can be performed to evaluate your horse's respiratory secretions for cell type and morphology, as well as the presence of bacteria.
