Gastrointestinal

While horses have one of the most complex gastrointestinal systems in the animal kingdom, this also predisposes them to a large amount of gastrointestinal disease.

Colic is the most common type of veterinary problems to be encountered, but there are a few other non-intestinal diseases (liver/kidney) which we may be able to diagnose and treat. Colic is simply defined as non specific abdominal pain which may or may not be associated with intestinal diseases (impactions, displacements, etc).

CEH offers the following gi related services: colic work up and treatment, fluid therapy, gastroscopy (to diagnose stomach ulcers), abdominal ultrasound, analysis of abdominal fluid and liver biopsy. Often these services may be performed at our hospital to improve patient comfort and compliance.
